The Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation’s Board of Directors approved its largest-ever grant to Mountain Brook Schools at its quarterly board meeting in May. The grant totals $723,198.08 for the school system with funds designated for professional development, including the school district’s annual Engage Learning Conference and stipends for teachers participating in summer learning groups. The grant also provides academic assistance for students, including support for the Math Lab at Mountain Brook High School.  Additionally, the Foundation funds math coaches at each of the four elementary schools.

“We cannot say enough good things about the Foundation, its Board of Directors and those who generously support it,” Mountain Brook Schools Superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow said. “We are approaching 35 years of their support and have received over $12 million in grants to make our schools a better place to learn and to work. Among all these things, the Foundation’s support helps our students thrive.”

This grant comes on the heels of the nonprofit’s ‘Fund Our Future: Endowing Student Success’ campaign. Launched in 2024, this campaign has raised more than $5.86 million thanks to generous community support to grow the Foundation’s endowment fund, which surpassed the $20 million mark this year. Based on the Foundation’s established spending policy, the Foundation should soon be in a position to contribute $1 million annually to the district.  

Members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors will present the grant check to school officials and members of the Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education on October 2, 2026 during a Mountain Brook football game.
