Friday September 13, 2024 – The Mountain Brook School District continues to achieve excellence in student performance, showcasing significant progress across various academic assessments. The 2024 Student Achievement Report provides insights into how students are performing in subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and advanced courses like the ACT and AP exams. ACAP Summative Assessment Results
The ACAP (Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program) tracks student progress in Reading, Mathematics, and Science across grades 2-8. Since its implementation in 2020, Mountain Brook students have demonstrated steady improvements.
- English Language Arts (ELA):
Last school year, students in 2nd to 8th grades consistently met or exceeded benchmarks, with standout results in 2nd grade where 95% met benchmarks, and 66% exceeded expectations. Similarly, 5th grade saw 94% meet the benchmark, with an impressive 65% exceeding it. - Mathematics:
Mountain Brook students have maintained strong math scores, with 2nd grade achieving 90% proficiency. 7th and 8th grades saw 67% of students meet the benchmarks. - Science:
Science assessment is done for grades 4, 6, and 8. Notably, 86% of 4th graders met the science benchmark in 2024, continuing the upward trend in the past three years.
ACT and PreACT Results
- ACT:
The ACT exam remains an indicator for college readiness. Mountain Brook juniors scored an average of 25.2 in 2024, significantly outperforming the state (18.0) and national averages (19.9). This continues the school's tradition of exceeding state and national ACT scores. - PreACT:
Sophomores also showed strong performance, with an average score of 21.8, well above the national average of 17.0.
Please note that these scores take into account all students from MBHS in 10th and 11th grades from the 2023-2024 school year. A majority of MBHS students take the ACT multiple times in addition to this test and the average is actually higher upon graduation their senior year.
PSAT and National Merit Achievements
The PSAT is a critical exam for students aspiring to become National Merit Scholars. In 2024, Mountain Brook produced 24 National Merit Semifinalists, with scores ranging between 1400-1520, marking a significant academic milestone for the school.
Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
Mountain Brook continues to lead in AP courses with 28 AP subjects offered. Students took 1151 exams in 2024, with an impressive 89% scoring 3 or higher, significantly outperforming the global average of 60%. Notably, 326 students achieved the top score of 5, highlighting the district's commitment to rigorous academic standards.
