October Board Meeting Report
Friday, October 25, 2024 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, October 22 at Cherokee Bend Elementary for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:
Board members present: Jenifer Kimbrough, Anna Comer, Nicky Barnes and Daniel Odrezin.
Board Meeting Agenda
The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.
Recognitions:
- Lula Comer, 2024 MBHS Homecoming Queen
- National Merit Semi Finalists (5) and Commended (9) Students from MBHS
- Brookwood Forest Elementary - 2024 Blue Ribbon School
Reports to the Board:
- Financial Statements for the month ending September 30, 2024 are not available due to the close of the fiscal year.
- Summer Professional Development: MBS faculty and staff logged over 11,000 hours of professional development this past summer.
Old Business
- Policy I-8 - Live Work in Career/Technical Programs, Policy I-10 - Cooperative Education Program, and Policy I-11 - Safety in Career Technical Education Program were all unanimously approved.
New Business
- The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and unanimously approved miscellaneous items as surplus so that they can be discarded/donated/sold.
- The board approved the bid to split the cost with the city to add LED lights to the MBHS Soccer Field.
- Science Curriculum Framework was tabled for community review and input.

- MBHS Theatre Production - "These Shining Lives" , October 24-26, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
- Veterans Day - Monday, November 11, 2024 - All Schools and Offices Closed
- Next Board Meeting - Monday, November 18, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. with work session at 2:00 p.m. at Crestline Elementary, 3785 W. Jackson Blvd
