MBJH Basketball Plays in 'Court of Dreams'
The Mountain Brook Junior High 8th grade boys and girls basketball teams participated in the ‘Court of Dreams’ event hosted by the Birmingham Squadron on Wednesday afternoon December 4. The Squadron are the official ‘G-league’ affiliate of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans and host teams and events as a part of community outreach.
After the Squadron’s 11:30 a.m. game on Wednesday morning, the Spartans took the court in Legacy Arena at the BJCC and faced Oak Mountain. The Spartan girls team benefitted from Lily Henderson’s seven fourth-quarter points to propel them to a 36-28 victory. Henderson led all Spartan scorers with nine points.
The boys tipped off shortly after the girls game. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead and Wyman Stuermann’s 10 points supported by Charlie Little’s nine points were enough to secure Mountain Brook’s 40-33 victory in the end.
Each player in the boys and girls game had their name announced prior to tip off. MBJH 7th grader, Addie Mae Good sang the national anthem and the entire event was put on like a professional game thanks to the school’s administration and Squadron’s hospitality. Entertainment featured Mountain Brook and Oak Mountain’s cheer and dance squads, half court and three point shooting contests, pickleball on the court and buses of students from MBJH added decibels upon decibels of crowd noise.
