Tuesday, February 11, 2025 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, February 10 at Mountain Brook High School for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:

Board Members present: Anna Comer, Jenifer Kimbrough, Daniel Odrezin, Nicky Barnes and Jeffrey Brewer

Board Meeting Agenda

The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.

Recognitions:

• All 5 contestants from the 2025 Mountain Brook Schools District Spelling Bee were recognized for being named the top speller in their respective school and competing for a spot to represent our district in the Jefferson County Bee.
• All six of Mountain Brook Schools Child Nutrition teams were recognized for recently all receiving a 100 on their latest inspection. While our teams often score 97, 98, 99 and 100, this is the first time in a number of years that all six crews received a 100 at the same time.
•  MBHS student, Lucy Vann, was recognized for having her art displayed in the 2025 State Superintendent’s Visual Art Exhibit!

Reports to the Board:

• MBS Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin, presented board members with the district’s monthly financial statements, which were unanimously approved.

Old Business

• The Survey Elective and the AP Precalculus course were approved.

New Business

• The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and unanimously approved miscellaneous items as surplus so that they can be discarded/donated/sold.
• The science materials adoption was tabled for community review and input until the March Board Meeting.
