Tuesday, March 11, 2025 – The Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education met Monday, March 10 at Mountain Brook Board of Education for the district’s monthly board meeting. Below is a rundown of the meeting:

Board Members present: Anna Comer, Jenifer Kimbrough, and Daniel Odrezin

Board Meeting Agenda

The meeting opened by approving minutes from the last board meeting.

Recognitions:

• Cherokee Bend’s Solai Meyyappan was recognized for recently obtaining full citizenship in the United States. Dr. Barlow remarked how her continued support of her colleagues and students makes her such a valuable asset at CBS!
• Lula Comer, a senior at MBHS, was recognized for winning the 2025 Miss Olympian Pageant!
• The MBHS varsity girls basketball team was recognized for their recent Final Four run. The team and coaching staff were present to be recognized. Click here to read about their Final Four run and season.
• The MBHS Dorians were recognized for defending their national championship at this year’s UDA Nationals!
• The MBHS wrestling team was recognized for winning their 3rd consecutive duals state championship and having 10 student athletes qualify for the traditional state championship! Click here to read about their duals title.

Reports to the Board:

• MBS Chief School Financial Officer, Kari Austin, presented board members with the district’s monthly financial statements, which were unanimously approved.

Old Business

• The Science Materials Adoption was approved.

New Business

• The board unanimously approved the latest personnel recommendations and unanimously approved miscellaneous items as surplus so that they can be discarded/donated/sold.
• The board unanimously approved the fencing work at Mountain Brook Elementary and to split the cost with the city up to $21,771.
• The MBHS choir and band trip to Vienna in spring 2026 was approved.
• The 2026-2027 along with the 2027-2028 academic calendars were tabled for community review and input. Click the link below to view the two calendars.
